Glenda Bartell, Director

Mrs. Bartell is a graduate of the University of Redlands, where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and her California Teaching Credential. She also spent a semester in Salzburg, Austria, where she studied the clarinet at the prestigious Mozarteum Conservatory. Mrs. Bartell also holds a Master of Music degree in conducting from the American Band College of Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon. Through this program, Mrs. Bartell has had the pleasure of playing under and working with many of the nation's and world's leading composers, conductors, and musicians. Some of these include composers Robert W. Smith, James Barnes, Ralph Hultgren, Jan Van der Roost, Frank Ticheli, David Holsinger, and Bruce Pearson; famed military band conductors John Bourgious, Roxanne Haskill, and Lowell Graham; and music education/student leadership guru Dr. Tim Lautzenheiser, among many other leaders in the field.

Mrs. Bartell is an active member of the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association, the California Music Educators Association, the California Band Directors Association, and the National Association for Music Education. She has served as an adjudicator for several honor bands throughout the region.  She is a lifetime member of Sigma Alpha Iota, an international women's music fraternity, for which she served as President of her college chapter, and is a member of the elite honorary music society, Pi Kappa Lambda.

In addition to her duties as a music educator in Brea, Mrs. Bartell is also very active in the Brea Olinda Teachers Association, for which she serves as Secretary and Membership Chair, and in the California Teachers Association, for which she serves as a delegate on the State Council for Education.

Mrs. Bartell is wife to Mr. Joe Bartell, Director of Instrumental Music at Brea Olinda High School and mom to their son Brandon.  They reside in Chino Hills, CA. She has two adorable rescue cats, a siamese mix named Kitty and a tuxedo cat named Freddy. In her spare time, she loves to spend time with her family and enjoys anything having to do with cooking, food, and eating!

Mrs. Glenda Bartell has been teaching music since 2001, and in Brea since 2003. She has taught both instrumental and vocal music in grades 5-12. Mrs. Bartell previously taught advanced band at all of the Brea elementary schools, but is now teaching a full day of instrumental music at Brea Junior High including band, orchestra, and guitar.  Under Mrs. Bartell's leadership, the elementary and the junior high programs both enjoyed great musical success and growth. The musical groups have won numerous awards and accolades, and have consistently earning ratings of "Superior" at district and regional concert festivals and competitions throughout southern California.
